Rockvale football off to 2-0 start, thanks to 1-2 punch at running back

Rockvale's football team is enjoying a 2-0 start in the 2026 TSSAA season, largely due to a strong performance at the running back position. Seniors Romeo George and Jamarcus Brown have combined to provide the Rockets with both talent and depth. Last week's 31-30 victory over Station Camp, where the Bison failed to convert a 2-point attempt with 15 seconds remaining, exemplifies their impact.

Coach James Counce expressed his delight at having such depth in the backfield, which now includes transfer Kingston McQueen from Stewarts Creek. Both George and Brown have unique skills and have been sharing their roles effectively. George, who missed the entire 2025 season due to ACL surgery, and Brown, who missed most of the final seven games last year due to an ankle injury, are both eager to prove themselves this season.

George's 65-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter gave Rockvale a 31-24 lead in their last game. Brown, who had over 400 yards and eight touchdowns in his first two games at Stewarts Creek before getting injured, complemented George's performance by rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the opening two games. The team's strong offense, particularly their run game, could be instrumental in maintaining their winning start.
