Nana Akomea files nomination for NPP First Vice Chairman race

Nana Akomea, a former Information Minister and Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has submitted his nomination to compete for the position of First Vice Chairman in the party's upcoming national executive elections. Possessing a wealth of political and communications expertise, Akomea has held high-ranking roles within the NPP and the government.

From 1997 to 2013, he served as the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, before rising to become the Minister of Information under former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Additionally, he acted as the NPP's Director of Communications, playing a pivotal role in the party's communications team during its successful 2016 presidential campaign, which brought the party back to power after an eight-year stint in opposition.

Akomea's entry into the race is anticipated to intensify competition for one of the NPP's crucial national executive positions. As the First Vice Chairman, the role entails supporting the party's national administration and organizational activities, as well as coordinating its operations. The NPP is currently gearing up for its 2026 national executive elections, with 13 aspirants reportedly vying for the three vice-chairmanship positions.

The party has set the vetting of aspirants for September 1, with the national executive elections slated for October.

Akomea's decision to contest brings an additional seasoned political figure into the mix as the NPP prepares to elect its next national executive team.
