Man City open talks with Liverpool over Gakpo

Manchester City have initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding a potential move for Liverpool's attacker Cody Gakpo. The 27-year-old Dutch forward has garnered interest from City and Tottenham Hotspur, but Manchester City appears to be Gakpo's top choice if he leaves Anfield before the transfer deadline on Tuesday. Liverpool recently signed Paris St-Germain winger Bradley Barcola in a deal worth up to £123 million, and sources suggest they would prefer to secure another forward before allowing Gakpo to leave.

Liverpool is also interested in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr. Gakpo, who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, has scored 33 goals in 91 Premier League appearances. Although Liverpool sees Gakpo as a versatile Premier League attacker, they may need to make a decision on his future shortly, as they plan to bring in additional wingers before the deadline.
