Kestabilan Malaysia perlu cermin semangat perkongsian, kata Salleh

Sabah Umno Bendahari Salleh Said Keruak has emphasized that Malaysia's stability requires embodying the spirit of sharing, stating that leaders must comprehend and respect the foundations of Malaysia's formation history. He referred to the statement made by Umno Secretary General Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki following the recent meeting of the highest Umno council, noting that Malaysian expectations for uniting the nation and prioritizing Malay interests are the key drivers behind these aspirations. Salleh stated that political stability at the national level should also acknowledge Malaysia's history, population composition, and the political realities in Sabah and Sarawak.

The former Sabah Chief Minister noted that Sabah and Sarawak have diverse populations comprising various ethnicities, religions, and cultures, therefore, their political traditions have been shaped by the principles of mutual understanding, mutual respect, and readiness to accommodate the concerns of different communities. He also reminded that the history of Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia coming together to form Malaysia in 1963 was based on agreement, assurance, and the spirit of sharing contained within the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.

As Malaysia approaches its National Day on August 31st and Malaysia Day on September 16th, Salleh stressed that national leaders must understand and respect the foundations of the country's formation history. This historical understanding is crucial for people in Sabah and Sarawak to comprehend their position in the federation. Equally important for our brothers in Peninsular Malaysia is to understand and appreciate this history and the spirit of sharing that formed Malaysia.

The long-term stability of Malaysia must be inclusive, acknowledging our diversity, upholding federal principles, respecting Sabah and Sarawak's history, position, and aspirations.
