Justice Mokgohloa’s death leaves ‘huge void’ in justice fraternity

Chief Justice Mandisa Maya lamented that the Supreme Court of Appeal has suffered a significant loss with the death of Justice Fikile Eunice Mokgohloa on August 20th at the age of 65. Speaking at the funeral held at Hillsong Church in Wonderboom, Pretoria, Maya praised Mokgohloa as a remarkable and dedicated jurist who tirelessly championed transformation and remained committed to serving the less fortunate during her illustrious career.

The Justice Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, echoed these sentiments, describing Mokgohloa as a jurist who fearlessly spearheaded change while remaining deeply rooted in her principles of justice and service to the impoverished.

Maya further highlighted that Mokgohloa belonged to a generation of judicial officers who served with humility and distinguished themselves through their extensive experience, having served from the magistrates court to the highest echelons of the judiciary. She commended Mokgohloa for embodying the qualities of independence of mind, integrity, intellectual ability, diligence, impartiality, and, notably, humility - traits that are fundamental to a good judge.

Her passing leaves a profound void within the judicial community, as those who knew her attest to her exceptional contributions to the justice system and her unwavering dedication to upholding the principles of fairness and equality.
