Security forces neutralize scores of bandits in Sokoto

In the early hours of Friday, security forces in Sokoto State successfully neutralized a significant number of bandits in Maikujura village, located within Rabah Local Government Area. The joint operation between police and military personnel resulted in the deaths of multiple bandits and the recovery of various weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and livestock.

According to DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, the operation was prompted by credible intelligence received that a large group of armed bandits was moving towards Maikujura with stolen livestock. The bandits were reportedly heading towards their hideout in the notorious Gundumi Forest.

In response to this threat, tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Violence Crime Response Unit, and personnel from the military Forward Operating Base, were mobilized. Security forces strategically blocked the bandits' path, leading to a fierce gun battle. Their superior firepower and tactical maneuvers overwhelmed the criminals, forcing them to retreat into the nearby forest with gunshot wounds.

Following the confrontation, security operatives searched the surrounding area and recovered the bodies of several bandits, along with two AK-47 rifles, 52 rounds of live ammunition, 15 motorcycles, and 62 rustled animals. No casualties were reported among the security personnel or villagers during the operation.

The recovered livestock's owners have been identified, and efforts are underway to reunite them with their animals. The police spokesman warned neighboring police divisions to remain vigilant and report any injured bandits attempting to seek medical attention or hide within their jurisdictions.

Commissioner of Police Hassan Hayatu Shaffa commended the professionalism, bravery, and swift response of the police officers and military personnel involved in the operation. He also urged residents to provide any timely and credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to combat banditry and protect communities across Sokoto State.
