Ibu bapa diseru ingatkan anak jangan terjebak sindiket ‘akaun keldai’

Parents are urged to remind their children not to fall prey to syndicates involving stolen "cash accounts". This warning comes from Ewon Benedick, the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah who is also the Minister for Industrial Development, Business and Transport. He emphasized that allowing others to use one's account can lead to legal consequences if the account holder is found involved in fraud or illegal transactions.

"This is one of the things we need to pay attention to. We need to remind ourselves, parents and children, especially the youth, not to easily be swayed or allow others to use their accounts," he said during a digital family program in Dun Kapayan, Sabah. Ewon, a Penampang MP, highlighted how digital technology has transformed the way people conduct various activities, including financial transactions and government assistance applications.

He noted the growing use of QR code payments, even among market vendors, indicating that digital transactions are no longer a novelty in society. "The same goes for various business grants provided nationwide, many of which are now applied for online," he added. Ewon stressed, however, that the use of digital technology must be balanced to prevent society, especially the youth, from becoming overly reliant on smartphones and disregarding their responsibilities and other important aspects of life.

He hopes that sharing knowledge through this program will enhance parents' understanding of guiding their children in using digital technology safely, responsibly, and happily. "I will continue to support initiatives like this one, which benefit society and also remind me of my responsibility as a parent," he concluded.
