Hajiji Noor, the chairman of the People's Alliance Sabah (GRS), has stated that the coalition must begin preparing for the upcoming general election by strengthening their presence at all levels. Speaking to MalayMail, Noor, who is also the state chief minister, said that GRS would discuss the distribution of parliamentary seats with other parties in the state government, including Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

However, he added that formal negotiations had not yet begun. "We hope our partners in the government will be rational, and we will identify candidates who can win," he said. GRS comprises of the People's Reasoning Sabah Party (Gagasan Rakyat), the People's Unity Party, the Liberal Democratic Party, the People's Hope Sabah Party, Upko, and the Heart of Sabah Party.

Together, they have 36 parliamentary seats in the state, which has 53 members of Parliament. Other state government partners include BN with six seats, PH with two seats, Perikatan Nasional with one seat, and six independent ADUNs. Noor said preparations for the upcoming general election must start with bolstering representation at all levels and increasing outreach efforts to voters.

Individually, Gagasan Rakyat has announced a reformation of the party into 25 parliamentary constituencies, with new constituency leaders appointed. These include Noor for Tuaran, Masidi Manjun for Ranau, Arifin Arif for Kimanis, and James Ratib for Beluran. In the 2022 general election, GRS won six parliamentary seats, while BN took seven seats and PH took five seats.

The next general election is expected to be held later in February 2028, unless Parliament is dissolved earlier.
