Hajiji Noor, the Chairman of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), stated that the coalition needs to start preparing for the upcoming general election by strengthening diversity at all levels. During a recent interview, he revealed that the GRS will discuss the distribution of parliamentary seats with other coalition partners, including Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN). However, he noted that formal discussions have not yet begun.

The GRS comprises various parties, such as the People's Reasoning Party (Gagasan Rakyat), Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Liberal Demokratik, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, Upko, and Cinta Sabah. Together, they hold 36 parliamentary seats in the Dewan Undangan Negeri Sabah, which consists of 53 members. The coalition's partners in the state government include BN with six seats, PH with two seats, Perikatan Nasional with one seat, and six independent ADUNs.

To prepare for the upcoming general election, Hajiji emphasized the importance of strengthening diversity at every level and enhancing outreach efforts to voters. Individually, Gagasan Rakyat announced a reorganization of the party into 25 parliamentary seats, with new leaders appointed, including Hajiji for Tuaran, Masidi Manjun for Ranau, Arifin Arif for Kimanis, and James Ratib for Beluran.

In the 2022 general election, the GRS won six parliamentary seats, while BN secured seven seats and PH took five seats. The next general election is expected to be held towards the end of February 2028, unless Parliament is dissolved earlier.
