EPL: Man City in talks to sign Gakpo from Liverpool

Manchester City are in discussions with Liverpool over a potential transfer for forward Cody Gakpo, the Dutch international who is seen as a significant talking point as the transfer window draws to a close. According to BBC Sport, City initiated contact with Liverpool on Saturday evening in an attempt to negotiate a deal for the 27-year-old striker.

Tottenham Hotspur have also expressed interest in Gakpo, but the player appears to prefer a move to Manchester City if he decides to leave Anfield. Liverpool are hesitant to allow Gakpo to move without first signing another forward. The club has shown interest in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace attacker Ismaïla Sarr as they assess their attacking options.

Gakpo's situation at Liverpool has become more uncertain following the signing of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, a deal valued at up to £123 million. The Dutch forward, who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, has netted 33 goals in 91 Premier League appearances. Gakpo was involved once more for Liverpool on Saturday, providing the assist for Alexander Isak's goal as his team drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield. He had also scored in Liverpool's recent draw with Newcastle.

With the transfer deadline looming on Tuesday, Liverpool now have a tight window to determine Gakpo's future and potentially secure a replacement before he is allowed to leave.
