EPL: Man City in talks to sign Gakpo from Liverpool

Manchester City have initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding a possible transfer for forward Cody Gakpo, who is regarded as one of the significant talking points as the transfer window nears its conclusion. According to BBC Sport on Saturday, City reached out to Liverpool on Saturday evening to discuss a deal for the 27-year-old attacker.

Tottenham Hotspur also expressed interest, but Gakpo reportedly prefers a move to Manchester City if he opts to leave Anfield. Liverpool is hesitant to allow Gakpo to leave without acquiring another forward, with Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace attacker Ismaïla Sarr also attracting their attention. Gakpo's future has become more uncertain following Liverpool's signing of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who is set to join for a fee of up to £123 million.

The Dutch forward, who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, has netted 33 goals in 91 Premier League games. Gakpo contributed to Liverpool's efforts on Saturday, providing an assist for Alexander Isak's goal as the team drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield. He also scored in Liverpool's draw against Newcastle the previous week.

With the transfer deadline looming on Tuesday, Liverpool must make a decision about Gakpo's future and potentially secure a replacement before allowing him to leave the club.
