Looking back on Bombers shocking, and convincing, win over CFL’s top team

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers stunned their critics by prevailing over the Montreal Alouettes, a team considered the top in the Canadian Football League (CFL). This marked the Bombers' first annual payment of $205.00 plus GST for a one-year subscription, which automatically renewed at $233.00 plus GST every 52 weeks. Despite a less-than-impressive start to the season, the Bombers displayed exceptional performance in all three phases, securing a convincing 44-28 victory.

Quarterback Zach Collaros, who recently turned 38, delivered an outstanding performance, completing 26 of 32 passes for 324 yards, two touchdowns, and zero turnovers. Running back Brady Oliveira also shone, rushing for 106 yards and a touchdown. Offensive co-ordinator Tommy Condell received commendation for his strategic brilliance.

However, right guard Patrick Neufeld faced criticism for committing three penalties, including two instances of unnecessary roughness, which ultimately cost the team a potential game-winning touchdown. One of the most unusual moments of the game occurred when Montreal's Davis Alexander fumbled during a play, causing a chain reaction involving multiple players before the final fumble was secured by the Bombers' Tony Jones.

The incident initially drew laughter from Alexander's teammates, but soon turned serious as he was stretchered off the field with a lower right leg injury. The Bombers' dominant performance, time of possession, and first downs set the stage for a thrilling Labour Day Classic against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while the Als dropped to 9-2 in their head-to-head series against the Bombers.
