Dubai Police trains security guards across 35 schools

Dubai Police recently organized training sessions for over 140 security guards stationed at 35 schools, focusing on traffic safety rules and guidelines. This initiative comes as UAE schools prepare to reopen on August 31, with more than 1.277 million students set to return to classrooms after the summer break. Over 1,180 public and private schools are set to welcome students on the first day of the new academic year.

During the training, security guards learned about traffic signs and guidelines, traffic flow regulation during peak drop-off and pick-up times, and how to respond to traffic accidents and security emergencies. They also practiced hands-on scenarios to simulate real-life situations. Additionally, they received guidance on ensuring safe boarding and alighting of students from buses, as well as how to handle traffic or security emergencies until professional help arrives.

With schools implementing phased return-to-school plans, the Dubai Police have increased patrols and resources to manage the anticipated busy traffic around schools. Dubai Police will deploy 253 patrols and 28 drones, while the Roads and Transport Authority will enhance bus frequencies and add taxis in school zones. Other emirates, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah, have also taken similar measures to ensure safe transportation for students.

The UAE government has recently announced a new policy, effective for the 2026-27 academic year, which will eliminate homework for pupils in kindergarten to Year 2 at public schools. The Ministry of Education has also introduced evaluations for all licensed public and private schools. To support school leaders, teachers, advisors, and support staff, the ministry conducted a specialized training week with various programmes and hybrid workshops tailored to more than 24,000 participants.
