Driver in fatal Gua Musang crash believed to be migrant smuggler

GUWA MUSANG: Police suspect the driver of a Proton X70 involved in a fatal crash that claimed two lives on Thursday was a migrant smuggler. Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, the district police chief, said the injured driver is now in a coma and receiving treatment at Gua Musang Hospital. The incident occurred when the driver, traveling from Kota Baru to Kuala Lumpur, spotted a police roadblock and attempted to escape by making a U-turn.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the crash. Sik mentioned that the vehicle was believed to be carrying eight undocumented migrants at the time of the incident, resulting in two deaths and six injuries. The migrants were taken to the hospital for treatment, while the driver remains in critical condition. Police are investigating the case under relevant sections of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Penal Code, including Section 55E (harbouring undocumented migrants), Section 6(1)(c) (illegal entry into Malaysia), Section 186 (obstructing a public servant), and Section 353 (using criminal force against a public servant).
