Children’s literature to drive early interest in Ghana’s tourism – GTA CEO

Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has joined forces with Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited and the Ghana Library Authority to launch a children's tourism book, "Ama Ghana." The publication aims to introduce young readers to Ghana's tourism attractions, cultural heritage and national identity.

The book is part of an initiative that believes literature can significantly promote tourism by transforming stories into gateways that inspire readers to explore real-life destinations, cultural sites, festivals and locations associated with the narratives they encounter. The GTA, Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited, and the Ghana Library Authority hope that the book will help young people develop a deep appreciation for Ghana's heritage and identity while sparking early interest in the country's tourism potential.

The unveiling of "Ama Ghana" is scheduled for August 28, 2026, at the National Theatre of Ghana in Accra, coinciding with the 2026 Ghana International Book Fair. The launch will bring together stakeholders from various sectors, including tourism, publishing and education, to discuss the role of literature and storytelling in tourism promotion and the significance of exposing children to Ghana's rich heritage and attractions through engaging, relatable content.

"Ama Ghana" is expected to serve both an educational and promotional purpose, using storytelling to inspire young readers to learn about and appreciate Ghana while generating interest in the country's tourism destinations and cultural assets.
