4 cops injured as police party comes under attack in KP's DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Four police officers sustained injuries on Saturday when terrorists launched an attack on a police patrol in the Hathala area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, according to the district police spokesperson. The statement revealed that the police force, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kefayat, was en route when the terrorists opened fire near Pota and Al-Amin Farm House.

There was subsequently an exchange of gunfire between the two parties, leading to the police vehicle overturning and injuring several individuals, as reported by DPO Ziauddin Ahmed. One of the wounded sustained a bullet wound, yet all four were declared out of danger. Subsequent to the incident, a substantial military contingent arrived from Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines, and officials sealed off the area while conducting a thorough search operation.

Last month, 14 individuals were killed and 18 others were injured when a suicide bomber targeted a police station near Kabal in Swat. The Annual Security Report 2025 from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) revealed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced a significant spike in violence last year, with fatalities increasing from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025 - a 711-death rise representing over 82 percent of the nation-wide total and a 44 percent year-on-year surge in the region.
