4 cops injured as police party comes under attack in KP's DI Khan

Dera Ismail Khan: Four police officers were injured on Saturday when a terrorist attack targeted a police convoy in the Hathala area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, according to police. The district police spokesperson reported that the police party, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kefayat, was en route when terrorists fired upon them near Pota and Al-Amin Farm House.

The spokesperson added that the police responded with counter-fire, resulting in a clash between the two sides. During the exchange, the police vehicle overturned, causing injuries to several officers. DPO Ziauddin Ahmed confirmed to Dawn that four policemen sustained injuries, with one of them suffering a bullet wound. He assured that the condition of all the injured individuals is stable.

Following the attack, a significant police presence arrived from the Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines, as the area was cordoned off and a search operation was initiated. Earlier this month, a suicide bombing near the Kabal Police Station in Swat left 14 people dead and 18 others injured. According to the Annual Security Report 2025 by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced a substantial increase in violence last year, with fatalities rising from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.

This represented a 711 death increase, accounting for over 82 percent of the national rise and signifying a 44 percent year-on-year surge in violence in the province.
