USS Theodore Roosevelt reportedly set for Middle East deployment as Iran war continues

The United States is set to deploy another aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East as the ongoing conflict with Iran persists, according to a report by the US Naval Institute. The USS Theodore Roosevelt, a Nimitz-class carrier, is anticipated to depart from San Diego, California, within the next few weeks for a deployment that will last over seven months.

This new strike group will supersede the USS George Washington, which recently arrived in the Middle East after completing a stint in Japan. The George Washington succeeded the USS Abraham Lincoln, which had been stationed in the region since November 2025, and is expected to conduct a port visit to Thailand next week, granting its nearly 5,000 crew members a short respite from their duties.

The deployment signifies Washington's continued naval presence in the Arabian Peninsula waters, following the United States and Israel's military actions against Iran since late February.
