US clears Strait of Hormuz as 50,000 troops maintain blockade of Iran, CENTCOM chief says

The US military has confirmed the Strait of Hormuz is now open for international shipping, according to CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper. This clearance comes after the removal of Iranian sea mines from the region, deemed a significant milestone by Cooper. The US employed various forces, including Navy divers, SEALs, and air power from multiple branches, to complete the task, which was neither easy nor without risk.

Throughout the past months, nearly 1,500 vessels carrying 750 million barrels of crude oil passed through the strait, protected by US forces. Meanwhile, around 50,000 US troops have maintained a blockade on Iran since mid-July, preventing the country from exporting oil. The blockade has been successful, with no ships entering or leaving Iranian ports without permission, except under humanitarian circumstances.

Cooper praised the dedication and professionalism of the US sailors, Marines, and airmen involved, crediting them for turning away over 20 vessels attempting to breach the blockade and disabling three. He expressed immense pride in their efforts and expressed gratitude to the American people for their support. Cooper urged all service members to continue their excellent work, take care of one another, and to maintain their commitment to their mission.
