Maktab Sabah reconnects with first principal Geofrey Clarke’s son

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 28): Maktab Sabah recently invited Patric Clarke, son of its inaugural principal, Geoffrey Clarke, for a visit aimed at reconnecting with the school's history and heritage. The event, organized in partnership with Borneo History, underscored the significance of safeguarding the institution's ties to Sabah's pre- and post-independence eras.

Clarke was joined by David Porter and Vynn Suren from Borneo History. The tour began at the former principal's residence, guided by Surilla Stimol and security personnel Rudey, followed by an encounter with Maktab Sabah's current principal, Suhaimi Asri, parent-teacher association secretary Hambali Saad, senior assistant for student affairs Mohd Al-Fitri Alfi Ismail, and senior assistant for the afternoon session, Halmi Along Ghani.

Conversations centered on sustaining the school's connections with local history and safeguarding narratives that have shaped Sabah. Suren characterized Clarke as a "living legacy" of Borneo's transformative decades, acknowledging Borneo History's commitment to documenting and preserving historical accounts. Clarke and Porter were honored as guests of distinction and embarked on a guided tour of the school alongside current students.

The visit concluded with a photography session and the presentation of Maktab Sabah's annual publications from 2022 to 2025 to the visitors. The school emphasized the value of collaboration between heritage organizations and educational institutions in preserving institutional memory and Sabah's history for future generations.
