Shatta Wale endorses Mahama’s vision, questions appointees

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, widely recognized as Shatta Wale, has voiced his backing for President John Dramani Mahama's governing philosophy, yet expressed reservations about certain members of his administration. In an interview with GHOne TV, Shatta Wale indicated his contentment with the President's vision, yet hinted that the execution by some government appointees had fallen short of expectations.

"I'm pleased with President Mahama and his ideology," he remarked. These remarks come amidst a wider evaluation of the performance of President Mahama's ministers and other appointees, with the musician making a clear distinction between his support for the President's political direction and his criticisms of those responsible for its implementation.

Shatta Wale's stance was further underscored by his own grievances with the government. He recently alleged that the Ministry of Youth and Sports owed him approximately GH¢5 million for promotional activities he carried out in support of the Black Stars during Ghana's 2026 World Cup bid. However, this claim has not been independently verified, and the Ministry has not yet issued a public response.

The artiste posited that this outstanding payment had hindered his ability to single out a minister or presidential appointee who had demonstrated the best performance. Consequently, Shatta Wale's latest comments present a nuanced picture of the administration, applauding the President's ideological direction but criticizing certain facets of the performance and conduct of certain appointees.

Shatta Wale has a history of expressing public support for the national football team, even pledging $100,000 towards Ghana's participation in the 2026 World Cup in March of that year.
