Russian lieutenant colonel from regiment accused of war crimes killed in St. Petersburg blast

A 24-year-old Russian woman is believed to have planted a bomb that killed a St. Petersburg Air Force lieutenant colonel and his wife. The attack occurred on August 27 near Kolpino Highway. The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, arrived in St. Petersburg the day before the attack. According to reports, Ukrainian armed forces offered her a deal: plant the bomb and flee to Ukraine.

She then left for Turkey and later to Chisinau, Moldova. The officer and his wife were inside their car when it exploded, with the lieutenant colonel killed and his wife hospitalized. Russia's Investigative Committee opened a criminal case, but the charge has not been specified. The officer was a military pilot in Russia's Aerospace Forces.
