Police agency issues special alert on discipline

On Friday, the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) released a special discipline alert following a series of incidents involving police officers' improper handling of duties. This includes the false closure of a missing person case on the southern island of Jeju, where a police officer allegedly closed the case without confirming the person's safety.

The KNPA announced that the special alert will be in effect nationwide for ten days, starting from September 1st, with a heightened focus on inspecting police officers' conduct during this period.

As part of the alert, all group meals will be prohibited, and police officers are asked to refrain from drinking. Additionally, events will be discouraged or postponed if possible. The KNPA, along with metropolitan and provincial police agencies, will hold meetings related to the special alert at least once. Front-line police stations and mobile units will hold these meetings daily during the alert period. Furthermore, the police have expressed their commitment to ensuring the proper handling of duties during this time.
