Police agency issues special alert on discipline

On Friday, the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) issued a special discipline alert following a series of instances where police officers improperly handled their duties. This included a notable case in Jeju where a police officer falsely closed a missing person case without confirming the safety of the individual. The alert will be enforced nationwide for ten days, from August 28 to September 6, with intensified inspections of police conduct throughout this period.

Following the issuance of the alert, all group meals among police officers will be prohibited, and consuming alcohol will be discouraged. Additionally, events are being discouraged or postponed wherever possible. The KNPA, along with both metropolitan and provincial police agencies, will convene special alert-related meetings at least once. Moreover, both front-line police stations and mobile units will hold these meetings daily to reinforce the alert's message.

In an effort to bolster internal vigilance, the police will provide officers with training to prevent misconduct and will also send them frequent text messages about the special alert. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that all police officers adhere strictly to their professional duties during this critical period.
