Pims fire: Mustafa Kamal says 'no one will be spared', calls for reforming health sector

Health Minister Mustafa Kamal declared on Friday that "no one will be spared" in the wake of a devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), which claimed the lives of 14 infants. In a Senate address, Kamal stressed the need for profound reform in the country's health sector. He vowed that the entire government would support any proposed measures to address the issue.

Kamal emphasized the need to go beyond mere speeches and take concrete action to prevent similar tragedies in the future. He invited the House to collaborate in finding a way forward, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the responsibility to protect children's lives. The minister also highlighted the broader concerns within the health sector, pointing out that 400,000 children between the ages of one and five die every year due to preventable causes.

Kamal stressed that accountability should be placed on those responsible, and that an open-ended investigation committee should be formed to examine the incident thoroughly.
