Over 9.26 Lakh Passengers Avail Free Bus Travel On Raksha Bandhan In Uttar Pradesh

On Raksha Bandhan, more than 9.26 lakh passengers took advantage of free bus travel in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) began this initiative on August 27, allowing women and sisters to travel without paying for the bus. In total, over 6.03 lakh women utilized the free bus service, accompanied by more than 3.22 lakh fellow passengers. This resulted in a total of over 9.26 lakh passengers benefitting from the free travel on the first day.

The Transport Corporation estimated the total value of this free travel to be more than Rs 9.06 crore. UPSRTC General Manager (Operations) Anil Kumar assured that transport corporation officials and employees worked tirelessly to ensure women had a convenient and safe travel experience. Additional buses were deployed as necessary to accommodate the increased number of passengers, and the corporation continuously monitored the operation of buses, passenger convenience, and arrangements.

Moradabad region led the way, with 94,789 passengers, including 62,586 women and 32,203 fellow passengers, traveling for free. This was followed by Hardoi with 82,920 passengers, Gorakhpur with 68,152, Lucknow with 64,590, and Bareilly with 58,309 passengers. Together, these five regions accounted for around 3.69 lakh passengers who availed themselves of the free travel option.

Passengers expressed their satisfaction with the free travel facility, stating that many people needed to travel to their homes during the festival. This initiative reduced the financial burden on families, and the additional buses made it easier for passengers to reach their destinations amid the crowds. To ensure the eligibility of passengers and maintain transparency, Transport Corporation teams conducted surprise inspections in various regions, monitoring the arrangement of free travel in buses and the facilities being provided to passengers.
