'Not sorry': Israeli officer who killed international aid workers in Gaza justifies strike

Colonel Nochi Mendel, the Israeli officer responsible for ordering a drone strike that killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza, has stated that he is "not sorry" for the attack. The seven workers, who included individuals from Palestine, Britain, Australia, Canada, and Poland, were killed on 1 April 2024. In an interview recorded in October 2025, Mendel defended his decision to strike the aid convoy, stating that he was the commander who gave the order and did not intend to kill the WCK workers.

However, he admitted that he was not sorry for the consequences of his actions. The Israeli army removed Mendel from his post as chief of staff of the Israeli military's Nahal infantry brigade following the attack. The Israeli military has decided not to open a criminal investigation into the incident, which has been condemned by the UK, Canada, and Australia. They called the decision "shameful" and demanded justice for the victims and their families.
