Nepal police release names of 23 Malaysians missing in deadly flood disaster

Nine Singaporeans were among the missing in Nepal following devastating flash floods that swept through the country's border region, according to the latest figures. Rescue efforts were ongoing as authorities searched for hundreds of people who went missing after a catastrophic wall of water and mud inundated villages and towns along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers last Wednesday.

Among the missing were two Singaporeans traveling with a tour group of 47 people and another two on a separate expedition operated by Himalayan Trekkers. The Himalayan Glacier managing director, Sanket Pandey, confirmed to AFP that the company's team was checking hospitals where victims were being taken, as the majority of the group was staying in the affected Rasuwagadhi area.

Separately, two Singaporeans traveling with Himalayan Trekkers were part of a 26-member group consisting of Malaysians, a Tibetan guide, a driver, and eight Nepali guides. The group was en route when the floods struck, and the company had not been able to reach anyone since the previous day. The Himalayan Trekkers spokesperson stated that the area was covered almost entirely by sand and mud, making it difficult to locate the missing travelers.

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Singaporeans in Nepal to exercise extreme caution, remain vigilant, and follow instructions from local authorities, urging them to avoid flood-affected areas and register with the ministry.
