At least 10,000 families homeless after devastating Nepal floods

At least ten thousand families have been rendered homeless following catastrophic flash floods in Nepal, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The group's spokesperson, Tommaso Della Longa, described the situation as "catastrophic" in a recent interview with CNN. Della Longa explained that reaching those affected remains extremely challenging due to destroyed roads and bridges, severed communications, and some communities only accessible by helicopter.

David Fisher, head of the IFRC delegation in Nepal, reported to the BBC that entire villages and markets had vanished in the deadly flash floods. Satellite imagery suggests the floods were triggered by a massive chunk of ice breaking off a Himalayan glacier approximately 12 miles northeast of the Rasuwa-Rasuwagadhi border crossing. This collapse sent tons of ice and rock crashing into the Bhotekoshi River below.
