Nearly 470 killed in Nepal floods: What we know about rescue efforts

NAIROBI, Kenya — In the wake of catastrophic floods in China and Nepal, Kenya has shown solidarity with both nations by offering condolences to their governments and affected communities. Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi conveyed Kenya's sympathies to China following the devastating flooding in the Xizang Autonomous Region, expressing hope that the affected families and individuals find strength, comfort, and hope during this trying time.

Mudavadi also extended condolences to Nepal, where the floods have wreaked havoc and claimed numerous lives. He expressed his deepest sympathies to bereaved families and affected communities, including foreign nationals and tourists who were caught in the disaster. The Kenyan government has reaffirmed its solidarity with the Nepalese government and people, wishing them strength, comfort, and a swift recovery as they cope with the losses.

As rescue and search operations continue in the flood-affected regions along the China-Nepal border, a concerning situation has emerged in Tibet. Chinese rescue operations have been suspended due to fears that a lake formed by landslide debris could burst its banks and cause further flooding. Reports indicate that over 550 people are still missing on the Tibetan side, including foreign nationals and pilgrims heading towards Mount Kailash.
