James Agalga officially assumes role as Majority Leader

James Agalga, the Member of Parliament for Builsa North, has officially assumed the position of Majority Leader in Parliament. This change in leadership was communicated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to Speaker Alban Bagbin. The reshuffle occurred after Mahama Ayariga, the previous Majority Leader, was appointed as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Agalga, who now heads the Majority Caucus, has expressed his intention to adopt a collaborative and consensus-building approach in Parliament. He stated that he plans to engage the Minority on matters requiring consultation and compromise, in order to enable the House to effectively carry out its legislative and oversight responsibilities.

Addressing his counterparts from the Minority, Agalga assured them of his willingness to work across party lines while pursuing the government's agenda. "We can make compromises as and when necessary. And I assure you, I’ll give it to you," he said. "I would reach out, I would consult, but at the same time, I would work to ensure that the Reset Agenda of our President is accomplished for the betterment of all of us."

The news of Agalga's appointment also comes amid allegations of extortion that have rocked Parliament. Speaker Bagbin announced the change in leadership, citing a communication error as the reason for naming Agalga as Majority Leader.
