Medical college hostel canteens under food safety scanner

Food Safety officials conducted inspections of 34 canteens and kitchens within government and private medical college hostels in Karnataka on August 27. During these inspections, five establishments were issued notices due to deficiencies discovered. One canteen had issues with labeling and its kitchen was found to be storing expired rava and milk.

The Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration announced that legal action would be taken against the food business operator involved under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The operator would appear before the Additional Deputy Commissioner, the adjudicating authority, for further proceedings. These inspections are part of the department's ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and hygiene in student-focused establishments.
