‘Peptide Party’ in Bengaluru cancelled after FSDA seeks regulatory details

The 'Peptide Party' event planned to take place in Bengaluru's Koramangala area on Saturday has been cancelled by the organisers. This decision came after the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) sought detailed information on the peptide products that were to be showcased or made available at the event. The FSDA issued a public advisory on Friday, stating that the authorised representatives of Upsurge Labs LLP, the event's organisers, had submitted a written statement informing the department that the event had been cancelled.

The organizers had requested more time to submit the necessary documents, which the department had granted. The FSDA's inquiry was triggered by social media buzz surrounding the proposed event. The department was concerned about the identity, composition, source, intended use, and regulatory status of the proposed peptide products.

The FSDA requested specifics on each peptide product, import details, and any regulatory licences. They also asked for clarification on whether the products were classified as "drugs" under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Additionally, the department sought scientific evidence, regulatory approvals, and information on health claims related to weight management and muscle growth.

Details on medical supervision, consent procedures, and adverse event handling were also requested if administration was proposed. The FSDA's notice covered products presented as foods, health supplements, or nutraceuticals, and it sought relevant FSSAI licences and other details. However, the department emphasized that the information available did not constitute conclusive evidence of any regulatory violation.

The notice stated that the organizers had until 10.30 a.m. on Friday to provide the required documents, failure to which could result in the event being on hold and further regulatory action. The FSDA's advisory mentioned that the cancellation of the event was based on the organizers' communication and the department's efforts to establish the regulatory status of the products and their intended use.
