Andrea Mazzucchi, the newly appointed rector of the Federico II University, aims to steer the institution towards upholding the common good, according to his inaugural address. Mazzucchi, a 1966 graduate from Puglia who now resides in Naples, was elected in a landslide victory on July 3rd. A professor of Italian literary studies and a prominent figure in Dante and medieval Italian literature scholarship, Mazzucchi has authored over 300 publications and holds memberships in the Pontaniana Academy and the National Society of Sciences, Letters, and Arts.

He also serves as the president of the Society for Italian Literary Studies and a member of the Accademia della Crusca.
