Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar directs officials to identify five cities other than Bengaluru for industrial development

B Nagendra, a Congress leader, recently resigned as Karnataka's minister for planning and statistics, as well as from his MLA seat, after alleging that he was targeted by "Manuwadis" due to his tribal background. The allegations stemmed from financial irregularities at the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation.

Nagendra, in tears, stated that he resigned of his own accord to avoid embarrassment to his party. Despite BJP and JD(S) demands for his resignation, both the Congress and Chief Minister DK Shivakumar backed him publicly. The BJP and JD(S) had staged protests and blocked legislative proceedings, but the Congress stood firm, claiming that no court had convicted Nagendra. He denied media reports of his resignation and requested cooperation from the media.
