Jangan usik kerusi Seberang Jaya, Pemuda PAS beritahu Gerakan

A leading PAS Youth member has warned Gerakan against targeting the Seberang Jaya parliamentary seat, as the Permatang Pauh youth wing has decided to contest it in the upcoming Penang state election. Aiman Shamsul Bahrin, the PAS Youth chief in Permatang Pauh, stated that Seberang Jaya is a Malay-majority constituency that last won by Bersatu.

He emphasized that this factor should be seriously considered to ensure the Perikatan Nasional (PN) victory. He added that Gerakan's desire to contest Seberang Jaya goes against the spirit of cooperation among PN component parties. Instead, Gerakan should strengthen its outreach to non-Malay constituencies and build influence and roots in the area.

Aiman also said that targeting a seat won by a fellow PN ally could create the perception of internal competition and division within PN. The people want a strong opposition coalition, and the component parties should strengthen cooperation rather than opening the door for each other's advancement. He pointed out that PN should learn from the decision to place PAS Youth chief Dominic Lau in the Malay-majority Bayan Lepas seat during the PRN, which resulted in PN deputy secretary-general Amanah Azrul Mahathir Aziz becoming the party leader.

"Conflict among our own members in a potential winning area will only benefit Pakatan Harapan," he warned. Seberang Jaya is one of three UN seats under the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency, currently held by PAS MP Fawwaz Jan. The current UN holder is Izhar Shah Arif Shah from Bersatu, and his relationship with PAS is likely to cause a split in Bersatu seats.
