Hands off Seberang Jaya seat, PAS Youth man tells Gerakan

A PAS Youth leader has cautioned the Gerakan party against seeking to contest the Seberang Jaya state seat in upcoming Penang elections. Permatang Pauh PAS Youth chief Aiman Shamsul Bahrin pointed out that Seberang Jaya is a Malay-majority constituency, which was previously won by Bersatu and should be taken into account when strategizing for PN's victory.

He emphasized that the Gerakan division's decision to contest Seberang Jaya goes against the spirit of collaboration among the coalition parties. Aiman advised Gerakan to focus on strengthening its presence in areas with a larger non-Malay electorate and building its influence there. He warned that targeting seats won by allies could lead to the perception of internal competition and division within PN.

He also highlighted that PN's decision to field Gerakan president Dominic Lau in the Malay-majority Bayan Lepas seat during the last election resulted in a loss for the PN deputy chairman. Aiman argued that conflicts within PN's component parties could only help Pakatan Harapan. Seberang Jaya is part of the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency, currently represented by PAS's Fawwaz Jan, with the current Seberang Jaya assemblyman being Izhar Shah Arif Shah of Bersatu. A grudge for Bersatu seats is expected to emerge in the upcoming elections.
