Jangan usik kerusi Seberang Jaya, Pemuda PAS beritahu Gerakan

Aiman Shamsul Bahrin, the head of PAS Youth Permatang Pauh, has warned Gerakan not to contest the Seberang Jaya parliamentary seat after the Permatang Pauh faction approved a motion for Gerakan to contest the same seat in the upcoming PRN Pulau Pinang. The PAS Youth leader stated that Seberang Jaya is a Malay-majority seat which had previously been won by Bersatu and that this factor should be seriously considered to ensure a victory for Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He added that Gerakan's desire to contest Seberang Jaya conflicts with the spirit of cooperation among PN component parties.

Aiman further emphasized that targeting a seat won by a PN component ally should not be the aim. He also expressed concern that the motion from Gerakan could create the perception of an attempt to foster internal competition and division within PN. As the people seek a strong opposition unity, PN parties should strengthen cooperation rather than opening the door for each other's members to vie for the same seat.

Aiman noted that PN needs to take responsibility from the decision of granting Dominic Lau from Gerakan the Malay-majority seat of Bayan Lepas in the PRN, which resulted in the vacant leadership of PN. He warned that internal conflict among PN allies in a potentially winnable region would only benefit Pakatan Harapan.

Seberang Jaya is one of the three parliamentary seats under the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency, currently represented by PAS MP Fawwaz Jan. The current holder of the Seberang Jaya parliamentary seat is Izhar Shah Arif Shah from Bersatu, but the strained relationship between his party and PAS could potentially cause a split in Bersatu seats.
