‘I must do something’: Wife of missing Malaysian firefighter flies to Nepal to seek answers

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — The wife of a missing Malaysian firefighter, Hani Othman, journeyed to Kathmandu alone to gather updates on the search for her husband and others. She expressed her determination, stating she could no longer remain at home and merely cry. Hani Othman revealed that she had friends and acquaintances who would support her throughout her trip.

Her husband, Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, a 40-year-old senior firefighter, and another man, Mohd Sani Harul, were reported missing during a climbing expedition in Nepal. Hani's family and friends have been praying for their safety. Following her husband's disappearance, he had shared his thoughts about extreme mountaineering risks and the impact of the Broad Peak disaster on social media.

Meanwhile, M Vasanthi, whose sister M Venilla was also in Nepal, expressed hope that her sister would be found safe. Vasanthi, whose sister was traveling to Mount Kailash in Tibet, expressed concern for her sister's three young children who were struggling with sleep due to the emotional toll. The Foreign Ministry reported that 57 Malaysians were uncontactable following Nepal's major floods.
