‘I must do something’: Wife of missing Malaysian firefighter flies to Nepal to seek answers

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Hani Othman, the wife of a missing Malaysian firefighter, arrived in Kathmandu today to seek updates on the search for her husband and others. With a determination to do more than simply cry, she chose to travel alone, confident that friends and acquaintances of her husband would be there to aid her. The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu had been notified of her arrival.

Hani detailed that she was informed of her husband, Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, who was reported missing during a climbing expedition, along with Deputy Director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division, Mohd Sani Harul. Before his disappearance, Fakhrul Munir had expressed his thoughts on the dangers of extreme mountaineering and the impacts of the Broad Peak disaster on social media.

Meanwhile, M Vasanthi, whose sister M Venilla was also missing after traveling to Mount Kailash in Tibet, expressed her hope for her sister's safe return, emphasizing the emotional strain on her sister's three children. Of the 57 Malaysians unaccounted for following Nepal's recent floods, this figure was based on reports from family, friends, and employers as of 11pm on August 27.
