Honda, Nissan to reach deal on joint development of vehicle software, Nikkei reports

Honda Motor and Nissan Motor may soon reach an agreement to collaborate on developing a shared operating system and onboard computer for new automobiles, according to a report by the Nikkei newspaper on August 29. Honda has been in discussions with Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors regarding potential areas of collaboration under their strategic partnership, though no final deal has been finalized.

Nissan's CEO, Ivan Espinosa, mentioned earlier this month that the company was exploring various software collaboration possibilities with Honda. The news follows more than a year after Nissan and Honda ended merger talks, which were worth an estimated $60 billion.
