Honda, Nissan to reach deal on joint development of vehicle software, Nikkei Asia reports

Honda and Nissan are reportedly close to finalizing a joint venture to develop shared vehicle software and onboard computers, according to Nikkei Asia. The collaboration could see the two Japanese automakers integrating their operating systems and onboard computers as early as 2029, the newspaper reported on Saturday. Honda's statements to Reuters suggested they were still in the discussion stage, with no final agreement set in stone.

Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa had previously mentioned that the company was exploring potential areas of software collaboration with Honda, as part of their ongoing strategic partnership. This news comes more than a year after Nissan and Honda put an end to merger talks that were worth an estimated $60 billion. Nissan did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters outside of regular business hours.
