Governor James Orengo declares interest in 2027 presidential race

Siaya Governor James Orengo has publicly declared his intention to run for president in Kenya's 2027 election, marking a significant political move as succession politics reaches a fever pitch ahead of the next General Election. Delivering his announcement during a funeral in Homa Bay County, Orengo directly criticized President William Ruto, accusing him of disregarding the Constitution.

He asserted that Ruto swore an oath on a document he did not support, claiming this is the reason for the current political turmoil. Orengo identified Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang' as an individual who could potentially support him, suggesting his candidacy is a serious one. Orengo's entry into the race adds to the list of contenders vying for the presidency and has sparked speculation about the future direction of the Linda Mwananchi movement, a political force led by Senator Edwin Sifuna.

The announcement coincides with growing support within the movement, with delegates endorsing Orengo as the group’s president candidate.
