James Orengo’s car torched in Awendo, Migori County

Siaya Governor James Orengo addressed the burning of his car in Awendo, Migori County, amid ongoing political unrest in the Nyanza region. On August 29, 2026, Orengo shared on his social media that armed attackers attacked his vehicle, setting it ablaze and firing live bullets at it during his political activities. He expressed gratitude for the support of Migori residents and condemned the cowardly violence that aimed to hide their criminal actions.

Orengo strongly affirmed that such tactics only reveal their fear and that his movement is resilient, stating "You can’t burn down a movement, and you will never intimidate me." The attack occurred just days after a violent clash disrupted a Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay County, resulting in deaths, injuries, and property damage.

The two leaders promptly returned to Homa Bay for the burial of KDF officer Steven Onyango. Their visit coincided with heightened tensions in the region following the earlier unrest. Both leaders have accused their political opponents of orchestrating the violence in Homa Bay, prompting calls for their arrest and prosecution from Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, who accused them of involvement in the unrest.

Despite these accusations, Orengo insisted that his movement would continue to prosper despite the attacks and political pressures.
