Gabriel, Green make cases for 3rd QB spot in Browns’ 37-13 win over Patriots

Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green played pivotal roles in the Cleveland Browns' decisive 37-13 victory over the New England Patriots in the final preseason game of the season. Gabriel, the Browns' starting quarterback, threw three touchdown passes, two of which went to Luke Floriea, while Green orchestrated a 98-yard touchdown drive.

Both players were vying for the third quarterback spot on the Browns' roster. Gabriel, in his second year after being drafted in the third round of the 2025 draft, completed 12 of 15 passes for 186 yards and a 157.9 passer rating, leading the Browns (1-2) to points on the first five drives. Green displayed his dual-threat ability with 5 of 7 passing for 27 yards and eight rushing attempts for 66 yards.

The Patriots' Tommy DeVito started for the game and was in for two drives, completing 2 of 4 passes for 55 yards and scoring the team's lone touchdown through a 45-yard pass to Kyle Williams. The Browns scored their first points of the game on the first drive, with Gabriel connecting with Floriea on 6- and 14-yard touchdown receptions.

Green's 98-yard touchdown drive was capped by Ahmani Marshall's 9-yard touchdown run. The Patriots' Behren Morton played the rest of the game and led the team with 18 of 28 passes for 123 yards and two interceptions. The Browns will open their regular season against Jacksonville on September 13.
