Door to Pas-Bersatu reconciliation closed, says Hadi

The door to reconciliation between Pas and Bersatu has been firmly shut, according to Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang. The rift deepened after Bersatu decided to contest against Perikatan Nasional in the Negri Sembilan state election on August 1. Hadi cited this move, coupled with Bersatu leaders' hints of potential collaboration with Pakatan Harapan ahead of the Melaka election, as the reasons for closing the dialogue.

This stance came after the Pas Central Working Committee's special meeting on June 8, which decided to end political cooperation with Bersatu following an assessment of their partnership's direction. Despite a recent statement from Bersatu's Melaka Bersatu information chief, Hishamuddin Abdul Karim, suggesting room for discussions with aligned parties, including PH, the cooperation must not involve parties that betrayed the trust and spirit of previous cooperative agreements, as per Pas. Both Pas and Bersatu remain as component parties within the current Perikatan Nasional coalition.
