Azizulhasni seeks answer on role in Malaysia's LA28 mission

KUALA LUMPUR - National track cycling champion Mohd Azizulhasni Awang has requested clarification from the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) and National Sports Council (MSN) regarding his involvement in Malaysia's Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28) mission. In a nine-page statement on Instagram, Azizulhasni outlined the qualification process and his stance on his future career.

He emphasized that the key question was whether Malaysia still requires his services for LA28. The athlete highlighted that riders must compete in two seasons, including World Championships, Continental Championships, and World Cup events. Only the top eight teams and the top 30 individual riders will qualify for the respective events.

Azizulhasni, currently ranked 14th globally, aims to improve his position with consistent performances over the next two seasons. He remains open to competing as a fully professional athlete without KBS and MSN's financial support, which could be allocated to other riders. His primary concern is a support system ensuring top-level preparation and recovery.

Additionally, Azizulhasni proposed a hybrid training arrangement between Melbourne and Malaysia, depending on his commitments. He called for a written agreement on athletes' rights to qualification points to prevent misuse of points.
