Arbeitsmarkt: Zahl der Arbeitslosen bleibt bei über drei Millionen

In August, the number of unemployed people in Germany remained at over three million, according to the Federal Agency for Employment in Nuremberg. The figure rose by 54,000 compared to the previous month, marking a 36,000-person increase compared to August 2025. The unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 6.5%. The agency's chief executive, Andrea Nahles, noted that the labor market showed little dynamism beyond the usual seasonal patterns in August.

The data used for the current statistics were collected up to August 13. Job seekers continue to face a challenging environment, with the demand for labor remaining subdued. The agency reported 656,000 open positions in August, 3,000 more than July and 25,000 more than the previous year. The number of people insured for social security rose slightly seasonally from May to June, by 1,000, but fell by 73,000 compared to the previous year.

Despite this, the number of people receiving unemployment benefits in August increased to 1.133 million, 109,000 more than a year ago, due to the difficult economic situation and structural changes. The number of people eligible for earnings while working decreased by 116,000 to 3.754 million compared to the previous year, reflecting the successful integration of refugees into the labor market.
