2027: ADC does not need coalition to defeat Tinubu, says spokesperson

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) does not require a coalition to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, according to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi. During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Abdullahi expressed confidence that their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, could secure victory without relying on a coalition of opposition parties.

He emphasized that while a broad-based coalition could simplify their task, it is not a prerequisite for success. Abdullahi stated, “We are going to win. We don’t need a coalition to win this election.” He added that the ADC anticipated support from voters nationwide, from states like Abia to Zamfara, underlining that dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s administration would influence voters’ choices.

The ADC’s efforts to form a coalition began in 2025, with notable figures such as Atiku, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others joining forces under the ADC banner. However, internal disagreements led to the disintegration of the coalition, with some leaders, including Obi and Kwankwaso, departing to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Abdullahi reiterated the ADC’s openness to further discussions with other opposition parties, focusing primarily on cooperation in election monitoring and protecting votes. He also challenged the government to a debate on the proposal to restore fuel subsidy, expressing willingness to engage with the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the matter.
