Air Chief Unveils Upgraded Runway, Military Apron in Rivers

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, recently unveiled an upgraded runway and military apron in Rivers State. The primary goal of this upgrade is to bolster the Nigerian Air Force's (NAF) operational capability and mission readiness. Air Marshal Aneke emphasized that the enhanced infrastructure will significantly improve aircraft deployment, turnaround times, maintenance, and overall operational efficiency.

This upgrade is especially crucial for supporting security operations in the South-south region of Nigeria.

The project's success underscores Air Marshal Aneke's commitment to strengthening the NAF's infrastructure, systems, and capabilities. He acknowledged Governor Siminalayi Fubara's support in funding and reconstructing the airport facilities. Air Marshal Aneke also expressed gratitude for the handover of an AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter to the NAF, which further demonstrates the state government's dedication to national defence.

The upgraded runway and apron will enable the NAF to better respond to various security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, piracy, organized crime, and illegal bunkering. Moreover, the enhanced facilities will facilitate faster aircraft turnaround, enabling the fleet to support a greater number of missions. The improved infrastructure also extends to humanitarian aid, providing support for medical evacuation, search-and-rescue missions, disaster relief, and emergency air transport during crises such as floods and epidemics.

Air Marshal Aneke commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support in defense infrastructure, equipment procurement, and personnel welfare. He also thanked the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, and the heads of security and intelligence agencies for their contributions. The successful completion of this infrastructure project demonstrates the NAF's determination to build a stronger, more agile, and capable force.

With the new facility now in place, the NAF is better equipped to address national security challenges and protect the Nigerian people.
